Windham Hill Records is a record company, founded in the 1976 by guitarist and carpenter William Ackerman and wife Anne Robinson.

Windham Hill was originally a folk music label, releasing Ackerman's own work, as well as that of other guitarists. It then expanded to include electronic and world music ensembles. The label is best known for its high sound quality, groundbreaking music and tasteful album art.

Some of the best-known artists on the label are:

  • Guitarists Michael Hedges and Alex DiGrassi
  • Electronic musician and film composer Mark Isham
  • World fusion ensemble Shadowfax
  • Pianists Phillip Aaberg and George Winston

The label's records were distributed by A&M Records; until 1989, when PolyGram purchased A&M Records. Since then they have been distributed via BMG (Bertelsmann Music Group), a division of Bertelsmann AG. Ackerman sold half of the company to Bertelsmann AG in 1992 and the rest in 1996. Windham Hill is now one of some 200 labels owned by Bertelsmann AG through BMG.
