West Island School Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
West Island School is a co-educational secondary school located in Pokfulam, Hong Kong. It is a new member of the English Schools Foundation and offers courses up to the British GCSE and GCE A-levels.West Island School began operations on September, 1994 with its initial 84 year 7 students. Designed by Patrick Lau, the school uses a unique, open design with numerous walkways and levels. The Governor of Hong Kong officially opened the school in 1994. As of 2001, a new extension was planned and opened in 2003 to accommodate for the increasingly large number of students, especially in year 7 to which a new house (dynasty) was created.
Currently, the principal of the school is Mr. Brian Driver. There are over 1000 students attending West Island, with most of the students leaving after their completion of their GCSEs or GCE A-levels, where the latter will enter tertiary education. Historically, students completing Year 13 have mainly entered the United Kingdom, with some entering the United States, Canada, Hong Kong and Australia. The end results for the year 13's have been noted improve each subsequent year, with several students entering into Oxford and Cambridge university in the United Kingdom, and several others entering into Ivy league or renowned universities across the world.
