After General von Blomberg resigned from office for military reasons, General Fritsch assumed Comander-in-Chief of the armed forces. Because Hitler wanted this position for himself, political dirt was dug-up by the SS to demand his resignation also. This information obtained by the SS was later proved to be false. Once Werner von Fritsch was out of the way, Hitler assumed the power and created the OKW.
