Wayne's World is a 1992 comedy film starring Mike Myers and Dana Carvey as hosts of a cable access television show from Aurora, Illinois. The movie was adapted from a popular skit on NBC's Saturday Night Live. It was directed by Penelope Spheeris and also featured Tia Carrere.
Wayne and Garth's hobbies included playing Hockey in the street, hanging out at Stan Mikita's doughnut shop, and catching hot local bands at "Gas Works," a hard rock club in Aurora.
The movie was filled with pop culture references and started a few of their own. Catch phrases like "Not!" "Excellent!" aided the slacker lingo of Generation X as Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure did in 1989. Its multiple endings and the use of the camera as a character have been noted in film studies. The opening sequence to Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" propelled the song to #2 in Billboard singles charts nearly 20 years after it's first release.
Wayne's World received mostly positive reviews upon release and was commercially successful (an oddity for a Saturday Night Live film). It was followed by Wayne's World 2.
Wayne's World was written by Mike Myers. His only other screenwriting credits are for his Austin Powers films.
