The Victoria Salmon Kings are a professional ice hockey team in the ECHL which began play in the 2004-2005 season. They are based in Victoria, British Columbia.

History

Based in Victoria, British Columbia they have not yet played a home game as the Save on Foods Memorial Centre has not yet been completed. Some estimates put the arena completion date as late as June 2005, nearly two years behind. Some observers say that this could cost Mayor Alan Lowe his re-election in the fall of 2005.

Their first game was on October 22, 2004 against the Bakersfield Condors in Bakersfield, California, which they lost 7-2. The first goal in Salmon Kings history was scored by right wing Ryan Wade. Their first victory was on October 24, 2004 against the Fresno Falcons - Victoria won 5-0, with goaltender David Brumby turning away 37 shots for the shutout.
