The University of New Orleans, often called UNO, is a University located in New Orleans, Louisiana.The main campus is located in the Lakefront section of the city, at the Lake Pontchartrain end of Elysian Fields Avenue. The UNO Area is in a separate piece of land on Franklin Avenue.
UNO was founded in 1956 as the New Orleans branch of Louisiana State University, originally as "Louisiana State University in New Orleans" or "LSUNO", but became more independent and changed the name to "University of New Orleans" in 1974. However, the school remains part of the Louisiana State University System.
