The Valley of the Moon (1913) is a novel by American writer Jack London. It is notable for the portion dealing with a working-class couple struggling in Oakland, and for the scenes in which the proletarian hero enjoys fellowship with the artists' colony in Carmel.The protagonist settles in the Sonoma Valley, located north of the San Francisco Bay Area, where Jack London himself built his ranch. According to Jack London, the Native American word Sonoma means Valley of the Moon.
