The Lost Treasures of Infocom Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

The Lost Treasures of Infocom is an MS-DOS 1991 CD-ROM collection of 20 games from the text adventure pioneer Infocom. The release is in some ways superior and in more ways inferior to the original releases of all the included games.

Infocom went out of business in 1989, then owned by Activision. Still holding the copyright to all the past Infocom titles, Activision bundled 20 of Infocom's titles into this package. The games included are:

Some improvements were made over the original release of the games. The package contains all the instructions (bound in one volume) and maps for all the areas as well as all the Invisiclues for all the games. The package also has a launch menu which lets the user select which one of the 20 games they wish to play.

Some significant omissions from the package were all the "feelies" Infocom was famous for including in their games. The package merely contained photocopies of these items, such as sunglasses (from Hitchhiker's) and an ID card (Planetfall). Understandably, including these items would have significantly increased the production costs and package weight of the release. Feelies for all 20 games could weigh up to several pounds.

Sequel

The success of this release prompted the release of a sequel, The Lost Treasures of Infocom II. The sequel contained 11 more classic Infocom games.
