The Hospital Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

The Hospital is a 1971 black comedy which tells the story of a suicidal Chief of Medicine whose life becomes even more bizarre as doctors and staff of the hospital mysteriously begin to die. It stars George C. Scott (Dr. Bock), Diana Rigg (Barbara), Barnard Hughes (Patient Drummond), Richard A. Dysart (Dr. Welbeck), Stephen Elliott, Nancy Marchand (Mrs. Christie) and Roberts Blossom (Patient Guernsey). It should not be confused with a 1970 documentary called Hospital.

The movie was written by Paddy Chayefsky and directed by Arthur Hiller.

It won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay (Paddy Chayefsky). George C. Scott, nothwithstanding his rejection of the Oscar he was voted the previous year for Patton, was nominated for Best Actor, but lost to Gene Hackman in The French Connection).

The film has been selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry.
