Details, Explanation and Meaning About The Fairly OddParents

The Fairly OddParents Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

The Fairly OddParents is an animated series created by Butch Hartman and was first aired in March 30, 2001. It is produced by Frederator Studios, whose show Oh Yeah! Cartoons, showed the pilot episodes alongside many other first-run and one-time cartoons. It is shown in the United States on the children's television station Nickelodeon, and is also shown internationally. It is currently one of the most popular shows on Nickelodeon, with popularity comparable to fellow current-era Nicktoon, SpongeBob SquarePants.

The Fairly OddParents is set in the fictional central northern California town of Dimmsdale. (While the show undeniably sets Dimmsdale in the United States, it has no location; time-travel segments/episodes have explored both colonial and Wild West Dimmsdale). The show follows the day-to-day life of 10-year-old Timmy Turner. An only child, Timmy was often preyed upon by his mean babysitter, Vicky (referred to at times as "Icky with a V"). Just as his situation was particularly grim, he was granted a pair of fairy godparents, named Cosmo and Wanda, who had the power to grant his wishes and were charged with making Timmy happy. Unfortunately, Cosmo is a particularly dim fairy, and Wanda must devote her time to ensuring both Timmy's and Cosmo's safety; as such, although well meaning, their wishes often go awry. These Fairly OddParents (a pun on "fairy godparents"), mindful of their secretive existence, disguise themselves as various animals and objects in public, always with the same peculiar colors to identify the two: Cosmo is always a light green, and Wanda always a light pink.

This show was also produced by the Canadian company; ''Nelvana Enterprises, Inc.

Each episode of the show consists of two 10-minute cartoons.

Characters

Timmy Turner

Timmy Turner (voiced by Tara Strong), is an elementary school student. With a few exceptions, he is always seen wearing a pink baseball cap and a pink shirt. Somewhat impulsive, he often tends to make his wishes without thinking about the possible consequences of his actions, or how to explain his outrageous wished-for stuff to his friends and family. A common dialogue between Timmy and his dad takes the form:

Dad: "Where did you get that _____?"
Timmy: "Uh.....Internet?"

Cosmo and Wanda

Cosmo and Wanda (voiced by
Daran Norris and Susan Blakeslee), are Timmy's fairy godparents. Describing themselves (with tongues in cheek) in one episode as being "two halves of a whole idiot", their ability to help Timmy is limited by Da Rules, the all-encompassing set of rules and regulations on fairy behavior. They are a married couple who are both thousands of years old. Cosmo is childish, emotional, and easily excited, while Wanda is generally more calm and mature.

Throughout history, the actions of the two fairies had caused various historical events: Cosmo was held responsible for the sinking of Atlantis, and Wanda the extinction of dinosaurs. They have also been fairy godparents to many other notable figures before Timmy, and ironically, one such child was Denzel Crocker, before one of Timmy's accidents revealed that Crocker had fairy godparents.

Vicky

Vicky, voiced by Grey DeLisle, is a teenage girl who works as a babysitter, and is apparently the only babysitter in Dimmsdale, although her particularly hard-handed intimidation tactics, as seen in some episodes, may explain the lack of competition. A sadistic meanie who presents a nice face to Timmy's parents, she enjoys annoying and terrorizing small children for no reason.

Mr. & Mrs. Turner

Mr. & Mrs. Turner (also voiced respectively by Daran Norris and Susan Blakeslee); appear as Timmy's nameless, somewhat stereotypical, comically dimwitted suburban parents. Their first names are never given, and a time-travel episode revealed that somehow they always had the nicknames; "Mom" and "Dad". Mr. Turner is somewhat feminine (likes boy bands, girlish screams, etc.), while Mrs. Turner is more domineering. Both parents are quite clueless and stupid however, in contrast to many other childrens' cartoons which feature "wise" parental figures.

One episode established that they had hoped for a baby girl while Mrs. Turner was expecting, and had bought a large quantity of pink stuff, which explains why Timmy wears a pink hat. Though the Turners love Timmy at heart, they often appear to treat him with indifference, going on frequent trips and abandoning their son with his hated babysitter, Vicky. In the pilot episodes of the series (on Oh Yeah! Cartoons); their faces were always just out of shot; see Unseen character.

Chester McBadbat

Chester (voiced by Frankie Muniz and subsequently Jason Marsden) is a friend of Timmy, a street-savvy schemer and opportunist. One of his most prominent features is his braces, which, despite his state of poverty, are quite technologically advanced.

A. J. Ibrahim

A.J. (voiced by Haneef Muhammad and subsequently Gary LeRoi Gray) is another friend of Timmy, a very intelligent autodidact. A.J. has an incredibly advanced laboratory; much like the titular character in Cartoon Network's Dexter's Laboratory, A.J. keeps his lab a secret. It is possible that A.J. designed modifications to Chester's braces, but this is completely unofficial.

Jorgen Von Strangle

Jorgen Von Strangle (voiced by Daran Norris), is a high-ranking Fairy official (possibly the head of Fairy World), the strongest fairy in the universe and commander in chief of all fairies. He is married to the tooth fairy and hates Timmy Turner. He resembles both Sylvester Stallone in Rambo, as well as Arnold Schwarzenegger. Also worth noting is that he is the only male adult human-sized fairy that is ever seen on the show.

Crimson Chin

The Crimson Chin (voiced by Jay Leno), is a superhero appearing in comics and televised entertainment enjoyed by Timmy Turner. In this respect, the Crimson Chin, like Captain Proton or Reptar, can be thought of as a meta-fiction character, in that they are fictional within the fiction franchises for which they were designed. In reference to his voice actor, the Chin was originally a popular late-night talk show host who gained his powers by being bitten on the chin by a radioactive celebrity; since then, he has taken the responsibility of protecting the city of Chincinatti, taking the secret identity of Charles Hampton Indigo for the local newspaper, The Daily Blabbity.

In some of the adventures involving the Crimson Chin, Timmy enters the comic books he is reading (thanks to Cosmo and Wanda) and takes the role of Cleft, the Boy Chin Wonder (a tribute to Robin), and acts as his sidekick. Wanda and Cosmo, in turn, act as Timmy's two dog sidekicks, Ace and Clefto (a tribute to Batman's and Superman's respective super-pets).

The Crimson Chin also has a selection of villains in his rogues gallery, including the Bronze Kneecap, the Iron Lung, and the Nega-Chin.

Denzel Q. Crocker

Denzel Crocker (voiced by Carlos Alazraqui), is the somewhat estranged school teacher of the class Timmy is in. He is the only adult in town (and, in fact, the only person in town outside of Timmy) who believes in Fairy Godparents; he is therefore strongly suspicious of the amazing things that happen to Timmy. In an episode that dealt with causal loops (The Secret Origin Of Denzel Crocker), it is established that early in Crocker's life he obtained knowledge of the existence of fairy godparents, which cost him professionally when he made public his findings on the matter; however this is due to a time travel accident on Timmy's part. Crocker is a meanie who exhibits behavior consistent with megalomania, delusions, and bipolar disorder; however, he is not really delusional, because he knows that fairy godparents, at least in his experience, actually exist, and the torture this knowledge inflicts on him is further aggravated by the fact that he will never be able to prove it. He takes out much of his rage on the students, delighting in their failure.

The Pixies

The Pixies (voiced by Ben Stein), are magical creatures similar to fairies, but unlike fairies, treat magic as if it was a business. The pixies, with the exception of one, the Head Pixie, are of nearly identical appearance, donning grey business suits, grey caps, and black sunglasses. Their various attempts to take over Fairy World have failed at the hands of Timmy, and they often end up being tortured by Jorgen von Strangle.

Other characters

Villains

  • Nega Chin is the evil twin of the Crimson Chin. All other Crimson Chin villains answer to him, and each is named for his particular themed weapon:
    • The Bronze Kneecap, whose knee can fire any number of spring-loaded projectiles.
    • The Iron Lung, whose respiratory powers can rival that of a small hurricane, and who can store great volumes within his body using his lungs much like a vacuum.
    • The Titanium Toenail, whose humongous nail clippers shoot razor-sharp shards of metal capable of shooting through any substance.
