The Tarantella is a dance in 6/8 time characterised by the rapid whirling of couples. It is named after Taranto in southern Italy, and/or after the Tarantula spider (Lycosa tarantula) whose bite was allegedly deadly and to be cured only by frenetic dancing.
In computing, Tarantella is a terminal services application marketed by Tarantella, Inc, the name adopted by the Santa Cruz Operation after selling their rights to Unix to Caldera Systems (now the SCO Group).
