Svadilfari Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
In Norse mythology, Svadilfari was a magical stallion, owned by a giant disguised as a human stonemason, named Hrimthurs. Hrimthurs had come offering to fortify Asgard. In return, he asked a great price: the sun, the moon, and the goddess Freyja. The gods reluctantly agreed, imposing two conditions: that Hrimthurs employ no man to help him, and that he finish the task within six months, the time between Winter and Summer Solstices. If he could not meet both these conditions, he would receive nothing. Hrimthurs agreed, asking that he be allowed the aid of his horse, Svadilfari.
Hrimthurs carved great blocks of stone and Svadilfari hauled them to the site and helped hoist them into place. As the wall neared completion, the gods began to worry that Hrimthurs would meet his deadline, and conferred upon the god Loki the responsibility of foiling him.
Loki disguised himself as a beautiful mare and appeared before Svadilfari the next evening, who was overcome with desire. He pursued the mare all night, and Hrimthurs left his work to pursue his horse. This delay put Hrimthurs far enough behind schedule so that he missed his deadline.
Loki reappeared many months later, with the eight-legged horse Sleipnir, the result of his union with Svadilfari.
