Steele Prize Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
The Steele Prize or, properly, the Leroy P. Steele Prizes, for Lifetime Achievement, for Mathematical Exposition, and for Seminal Contribution to Research, are awarded annually by the American Mathematical Society. Steele Prizes were first established in 1970.The Steele Prizes are regarded as prestigious, but unlike, for instance, the Nobel Prizes, are not well endowed; recipients are given only $5,000. Neither is the Steele the mathematical equivalent of a Nobel Prize (there being no Nobel Prize for Mathematics). Whilst many prizes are compared with Nobels, in mathematics, it is more likely that such comparisons will be drawn between the Fields Medal, Wolf Prize or the Abel Prize, and the Nobel Prizes.
