Sulzeer Jeremiah Campbell, better known as Sol Campbell (born 18 September 1974), is a English association footballer who plays centre-back for Arsenal and England.He was born in Newham, London. He is 1.88m tall and weighs 89kg.Campbell played for Tottenham Hotspur and was their captain.
In the France 1998 World Cup with the score at 2-2 he scored a disallowed goal in England's game against Argentina, due to a foul on the Argentine goalkeeper by Alan Shearer.
In 2001 Campbell, out of contract, signed for Spurs' neighbours and arch-rivals Arsenal. The move famously saw Spurs' fans comparing him to Judas Iscariot. His reason for making the move was cited as a desire to win trophies, which he believed was far more likely at Arsenal. His belief has been vindicated by the two Premiership winners' medals and two FA Cup winners' medals he has won with Arsenal.
In the 2002 World Cup, Campbell scored England's opening goal against Sweden.
In Euro 2004, he scored another disallowed goal in a finals tournament, this time against Portugal. The score in the quarter final was 1-1 in the 89th minute when Campbell scored. Swiss referee Urs Meier controversially disallowed the goal for a perceived foul by John Terry on the Portuguese goalkeeper Ricardo Pereira.
