Söderköping is a Municipality in Östergötland County, in southeast Sweden. The municipality covers an area of 671.9 km². Of the total population of 13936, 6967 are male, and 6969 are female. The population density of the community is 21 inhabitants per km².In 1595 the Riksdag of the Estates assembled at Söderköping, elected Duke Charles regent over Sweden instead of the catholic Sigismund, who was king of both Sweden and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth.
