The Sith Empire was a fictional empire in the Star Wars Expanded Universe, established by dark Jedi banished from the Republic. They were seen as gods by the native Sith and made themselves their rulers.

Much later, Gav and Jori Daragon stumbled upon the Sith Empire and the descendents of the former Jedi rediscovered the existence of the Republic and decided to conquer it. Thus, the Great Hyperspace War began. However, after an assault on Coruscant, the Sith were defeated and their empire crumbled. Many escaped, however, and would resurface continually over the centuries.

Over the next few thousand years, various attempts were made by the Sith to recreate this lost empire, notably by Darth Revan and Darth Malak, and then by Lord Kaan and his Brotherhood of Darkness.

It was only the rise of Palpatine that finally heralded the Revenge of the Sith and the return of a Sith-led Empire.
