Sister Act is a 1992 movie starring the singer Whoopi Goldberg, and directed by Emile Ardolino. Whoopi's role was originally written for Bette Midler.Also in the cast are Maggie Smith, Kathy Najimy, Wendy Makkena, Mary Wickes and Harvey Keitel.
Whoopi Goldberg plays a singer who witnesses her lover murdering somebody, and has to go into hiding as a nun in a convent. As well as cleaning the city she also takes charge of the choir, and transforms it into a modern singing group.
It also spawned a sequel, , which was released in 1993. The sequel didn't perform as well as the original however.
