Simón Trinidad Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

Simón Trinidad, born Ricardo Palmera Pineda, was one of the medium-to-high level commanders of the Colombian FARC guerrilla group. A former wealthy banker turned rebel, he joined the FARC late in life, eventually participating as a highly visible negotiator during the failed 1998-2002 peace talks held under President Andrés Pastrana Arango.

Simón Trinidad was captured in January 2004 in Quito, Ecuador by local authorities and speedily deported to Colombia, where he currently faces charges for rebellion and various other alleged illegal activities, including the extortion or kidnapping of several of his former banking associates.

He is considered the most important FARC rebel currently in government hands, though his exact rank has not been made clear by either the rebels or Colombian authorities.
