Simon Fraser (explorer) Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

Simon Fraser (1776-1862) was a fur trader and an explorer who charted much of what is now the Canadian province of British Columbia. He was born in Bennington, Vermont U.S.A, and moved to Canada as a child with his family. Fraser became a fur trader for the Montreal-based North West Company and by 1805 had been put in charge of all the company's operations west of the Rocky Mountains. Fraser was responsible for building that area's first trading posts, and in 1808 Fraser explored the river which now bears his name, the Fraser River. A university named after him now exists in Burnaby, British Columbia.
