Seminar

Normally, courses taught in a University in the English speaking countires (except the in US and Canada) are divided into two parts: lectures and seminars. Generally, both of them are conducted in weekly basis. The differences between the two are the size and the nature. The audiences of a lecture can be as large as over two hundreds, but in a seminar general there may just be less than fifteen. While a student learns the gists of a new theory or topic in a lecture, he is expected to 'do the readings' and some prelimiary research during that week. In the comming week, during the seminar, the topic will be open to discussion. Questions can be raised and debates are conducted very often. Thus the purpose of a seminar is to let students and lecturers have easier and closer contact and a channel for a deeper discussion on the topic.
