Santiago del Estero is a province of Argentina, located in the north of the country. The capital is Santiago del Estero. The province has a population of 804,457 (2001), and covers an area of 136,351 km². Neighboring provinces are from the north clockwise Salta, Chaco, Santa Fe, Córdoba, Catamarca and Tucumán.The province is divided in 27 departments (spanish departamentos)
