Entrepreneur Russell Simmons aka Rush (Oct 4, 1957) is the co-founder, with Rick Rubin, of the pioneering hip-hop label Def Jam. He is the older brother of Rev. Joseph Simmons, Run of Run-DMC. He sold the label for 100 million dollars to Universal Music Group in 1999. Before founding Def Jam he managed both Kurtis Blow and Run-DMC. He is married to model Kimora Lee Simmons.

After selling his stake in Def Jam Records, Simmons branched out into fashion and television. He created Phat Farm, a successful urban clothing line, and the Def Comedy Jam and Def Poetry Jam in partnership with cable TV station HBO. Recently, Simmons brought Def Poetry Jam to Broadway as a live show, earning awards for the youthful and multicultural cast. Now Simmons has created a credit card company to attract young hip hop fans in need of credit. As CEO of Rush Communications, Inc. and with an estimated worth around $500 million, Simmons is easily the most successful businessperson in the hip hop music industry to date.
