Details, Explanation and Meaning About Riism

Riism Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

Riism is a non-sexist and easy-making modification of esperanto.

In riist esperanto:

  • The pronoun ri replaces the pronouns li and sxi.
One no longer uses the pronouns li or sxi.

  • The suffix -icx- is used in a symmetric way with the suffix -in-.
One use them only to emphase the sex or to precise it, if necessary.

  • In general, radicals without suffix -icx- or -in- do not indicate the sex.
Moreover, the twenty words that traditionnaly indicate only the masculine sex, and that have corresponding feminine forms with the -in- suffix, receive no sexual signification. However, if there is a danger of confusion, i.e. when talking to someone who does not know riism, one can add the prefix ge-, when neither the suffix -icx- or -in- is used. In example, dentisto (dentist) can be a woman or a man; (ge)patro can be a mother or a father.

The main words on which the prefix ge- can be useful are:

  • avo edzo fiancxo filo frato kuzo nepo nevo onklo patro vidvo
  • bubo knabo viro
  • frauxlo grafo princo regxo sinjoro
  • amiko

This is mainly easier for speakers of Finnish or Chinese languages, in which the third-person pronouns have no distinction between feminine or masculine sex. I.e., Finnish only has hän (= she, he) and se (= it).
