Character Bio
A member of Q-Branch, the job of R was to provide James Bond and his fellow 00 agents with high tech gadgets with which to thwart their enemy's evil ambitions. More specifically it was R's job to test and present how a gadget worked.
The real name of R is unknown and was actually given his nickname by Bond as a joke. When Q retired after The World is Not Enough, R was promoted as the new quartermaster of Q-Branch and thus given the title of Q in the follow up sequel Die Another Day. In reality, Desmond Llewelyn, the actor of Q in The World is Not Enough, was killed in an automobile accident just shortly after the release of the film. Ironically, Llyewelyn's last appearance in a James Bond film was standing next to a car being lowered into the ground.
