Psychosexual stages Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

In Freudian psychology, an individual progresses through psychosexual stages as they develop. In each stage the individual is attached to some object. Trauma at one of these developmental stages was theorized to lead to fixation, where an individual becomes obsessed with the object of attachment. Freud related the resolutions of the stages with adult personalities and disorders.

Stages

1. Oral stage, the first year, where a baby derives pleasure from their mouth. The child struggles with dependence on others.
2. Anal stage, the second year, where the source of pleasure and conflict is the anal area. The child struggles with self control and neatness.
3. Phallic stage, years three through five, where awareness and manipulation of genitals is the source of pleasure. The child must resolve their Oedipus complex.
