Propanol, sometimes known as 1-propyl alcohol, is a higher alcohol with a three carbon atoms and a general formula of C3H7OH of the form:

Collectively, the two isomers are known informally as propanol (sometimes called propyl alcohol). At room temperature and pressure, both isomers are clear, colorless liquids. Both can be used as a solvent or for various other chemical uses. 2-propanol is commonly used as "rubbing alcohol" or as an antiseptic. It is also used as a petrol additive for dissolving water or ice in fuel lines.
