Details, Explanation and Meaning About Prince consort

Prince consort Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

Generally speaking, a prince consort is the husband of a queen regnant (unless he himself is a king). Current examples are the Duke of Edinburgh and Prince Henrik of Denmark.

Prince Consort (capitalized) is also a formal title. Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha is the only British prince consort to have held it, awarded to him in 1857 by his wife, Queen Victoria, in recognition of his status.

It is not entirely clear what title a prince consort would assume in the event that he were to outlive his wife, as this seems to have rarely if ever occurred in the recorded annals of monarchy.
