Prekmurje Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
Prekmurje, Mur Region, or Transmuraland is a region of northeastern Slovenia, located on the border with Hungary, Austria and Croatia. It is named after the Mura river which separates it from the rest of Slovenia (a literal translation from Slovene would be Over-Mura).
The region is flat in the south near the rivers Mura and its smaller affluent Ledava, and hilly in the north (Goričko).
The main city of the region is Murska Sobota. Other towns include Lendava, Dobrovnik, Turnišče;, Beltinci, Črenšovci;.
The speciality of the region is prekmurska gibanica, sometimes humourously translated as "Over-Mura Moving Cake", which is its literal translation.
