Onside kick Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
An onside kick is a technique used in the sport of American football. The idea is to kick the ball in such a way that the ball is either very difficult for the other team to catch or bounces high in the air to allow the kicking team to catch it before the receiving team. If the ball travels at least 10 yards downfield, under the rules it is a free ball and the team obtaining control of the ball retains possession of it. The technique is to kick the ball in a way that it spins end-over-end very near the ground and makes a sudden bounce high in the air. The oblong shape of an American football can make it bounce off the ground and players in very unpredictable ways.An onside kick is a desperation technique usually only used with little time left on the clock in order to gain another possession of the ball and to hopefully allow scoring again. The risk is that the opposing team retains possession of the ball and has much less distance of the field that they need to move the ball in order to score.
