Once Upon a Time in Mexico (2003) is an action film by Robert Rodriguez, a loose sequel to Desperado. Antonio Banderas reprises his role as El Mariachi. Also stars Johnny Depp, Salma Hayek, Willem Dafoe and Enrique Iglesias. This picture is part of the "El Mariachi trilogy", which also includes El Mariachi and Desperado.The plot centers once again on El Mariachi, who is recruited by Sands, a mysterious CIA agent, to prevent the assassination of the President of Mexico at the hands of a Mexican crime boss. It should be noted that Salma Hayek appears only in flashbacks, as her character is, of course, dead.
