Muridae is a large family of rodents. It includes true mice and rats and many other relatives. They occupy a vast variety of habitats on every continent except Antarctica.
The Murids are classified in 17 subfamilies, around 260 genera and at least 1150 species.

- Arvicolinae (voles, lemmings and muskrat; often included in Cricetinae)
- Calomyscinae (Asian hamster mice)
- Cricetinae (voles and hamsters)
- Cricetomyinae (pouched rats and mice)

- Mystromyinae (white tailed rat)
- Nesomyinae (Malagasy rats and mice)
