Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food was a UK government department, dealing with agriculture, fisheries and food safety. It was widely criticised for its handling of the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy crisis (better known as Mad Cow Disease) and later the foot and mouth epidemic, and its functions were transferred to the new Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) in 2001.It was the last Ministry in the United Kingdom Government not to be a Department of State. The Ministry of Defence continues to be known as a Ministry although it has been a Department since the 1960s.
