Michael Hardie Boys Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

The Right Honourable Sir Michael Hardie Boys, GNZM, GCMG, QSO, (born 1931) was New Zealand's seventeenth Governor-General from 1996 to 2001.

Sir Michael was educated at Wellington College where he was a school prefect, and gained the degrees of B.A and LL.B at Victoria University College

Originally a lawyer, he became a Judge of the High Court of New Zealand in 1980, and elevated to the Court of Appeal in 1989. He was created a Privy Counsellor the same year.

He was created an Honorary Bencher at Gray's Inn in 1994, and was elected an Honorary Fellow of Wolfson College, Cambridge. He is also a Visiting Fellow at Wolfson.

Sir Michael was created a Knight Grand Cross in the Order of St Michael and St George in 1995, Knight Grand Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit in 1996 (the first such award), and is a Knight of the Order of St John.

He was appointed Governor-General of New Zealand on 21 March 1996 and at the same time was created a member of the Queen's Service Order. His term expired on 21 March 2001.

Sir Michael married in 1957 to Mary Zohrab. They have two sons and two daughters and eight grandchildren.
