MGM Grand Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
MGM Grand is the name of two casinos owned and operated by the MGM Mirage company. The larger and better known is the MGM Grand Las Vegas. Additionally, the name is used for a casino in Detroit. On June 23, 2004 MGM Mirage sold the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Darwin, Australia to SKYCITY Entertainment Group for $140140 million dollars.The original MGM Grand Hotel was built by MGM, then headed by self-made millionaire Kirk Kerkorian, on the Las Vegas Strip. Following a fire, which killed 85 people in November 1980, being the worst disaster in Las Vegas history, Kerkorian sold the original MGM Grand, and another in Reno, Nevada, to Bally in 1986.
MGM Grand Inc. was also the name of one of the corporations that became the current MGM Mirage.
