Details, Explanation and Meaning About Mercedes-Benz 600

Mercedes-Benz 600 Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

The Mercedes-Benz 600 was a large limousine automobile released in the 1960's. was intended to represent the absolute pinnacle of automobile engineering, and when introduced in 1963 is considered by many to have had no peers.

The model had every conceivable luxury and technology, including a complex hydraulic system which powered everything from the windows and seats to the automatic closing doors. The model came in two variants, a 4-door sedan and a 6-door limousine, the latter available as a "landaulet" with a convertible top over the rear passenger compartment. Two coupes and one funeral coach were built to order, and all three of these special cars survive to the present day in the United States. The 600 was so heavy, a massive 6.3-litre V8 engine boasting overhead camshafts and Bosch mechanical fuel injection was specially developed to provide more-than-adequate performance, and the adjustable air suspension gave the car a smooth ride and good handling over any road surface - though the car's agility was inevitably compromised by the car's size and mass.

Produced until 1980 in extremely limited numbers, this model had no equal in the Mercedes-Benz lineup until the introduction of the modern Maybach 57 and 62 models.

Preservation, and where to see them:

The 600 was one of the rarest and most complex automobiles built in the 1960s, and even seeing one on the road today can be considered a treat. They used to appear in the limelight as they carried their wealthy and famous owners to their destinations, but today are mostly run by true enthusiasts who have the patience and finances to maintain them.

The 600's engine and air suspension were fitted to the 300SEL 6.3 model in 1966, providing the lighter (and more affordable) car with handling and performance unequalled by any other saloon car (sedan) for years to come.
