Maria Minna Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

Maria Minna (born March 14, 1948, Pofi, Italy) is a Canadian politician who represents the riding of Beaches-East York for the Liberal Party.

By profession Minna is a public policy consultant and has long been active in the Liberal Party. She has worked with the party and also with immigrants rights groups.

First elected to parliament in the 1993 election she was later appointed to cabinet as the Minister of International Cooperation. She was expelled from the position after it was discovered she had improperly voted in a municipal by-election, she was thus confined to the backbenches. Her illegal actions were leaked from within the Liberal Party and it is generally believed that Warren Kinsella an important Liberal advisor who has long wanted to run in Minna's seat was responsible.

In the 2004 election Minna faced a tough battle with NDP candidate Peter Tabuns, former city councilor and head of Greenpeace Canada. She won by 7,338 votes.
