Marat Mikhailovich Safin (Russian: Марат Михайлович Сафин; Tatar: Marat Mixail ulı Safin pron. Mah-RAT SAH-fin; b. January 27, 1980), Russian tennis player, born in Moscow, Russia. He became a professional tennis player in 1997.Safin's career highest singles ranking spot is the No. 1 position which he claimed in 2000 for the first time and held for 9 weeks.
In 2000, Safin won the US Open Grand Slam tournament. He also reached the final of the Australian Open in 2002 and 2004. He has struggled with injuries, being limited to 14 tournaments in 2003.
Safin has won four ATP Tennis Masters titles during his career. His first was in 2000 when he won the title in Toronto (Canada). In 2000 en 2002 he won in Paris (France) and his last one in 2004 when he was the best in the Spanish capital, Madrid.
His total of singles titles now stands on 13.
His sister Dinara Safina is also a tennis player. Both are ethnic Tatars.
