Manuel Elkin Patarroyo is a Colombian pathologist that is currently attempting to come up with a vaccine for malaria, a disease transmitted by mosquitos that affects millions of people in the Third World every year. His research has recently come under scrutiny as his vaccine has performed less than ideally in clinical tests.Presently, he is continuing work on the vaccine at the Instituto Nacional de Inmunología based in the Hospital San Juan de Dios in Bogotá, Colombia.
