Major world religions Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
There are generally considered to be twelve major world religions:
- Christianity 2.1 billion (Catholicism: 1 billion; Protestantism: 775 million, Eastern Orthodoxy: 240 million) [The arithmetic is incorrect on this line. Could someone with access to the data correct it? There is, however, the possibility that the addtion of numbers from denominations outside these three branches (such as Latter-day Saints and the Assyrian Church of the East) will make the numbers add up correctly.]
- Islam 1.1 billion
- Hinduism 1.05 billion
- Confucianism 400 million
- Buddhism 350 million
- Taoism 50 million
- Shinto 30 million
- Judaism 12 million
- Sikhism 9 million
- Jainism 6 million
- Bábí and Bahá'í faiths
- Zoroastrianism
However, these figures are disputed because of the difficulty to establish the number of believers in some countries, especially China.
