Lara Croft Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

Lara Croft (born England, February 14 1968) is the fictional amazonian heroine of the Tomb Raider series of video games.

Lara Croft, Duchess of Saint Bridget, is a British eccentric and wealthy aristocrat from the borough of Wimbledon, London. She is the daughter of Lord Henshingly Croft who appeared in the movie Tomb Raider. Educated from the age of 3 by a private tutor, at the age of 11 she began at Wimbledon High School, and at 16 moved to Gordonstoun. Her sense for adventure was first aroused upon reading an article on the archaeologist Professor Werner Von Croy in National Geographic, and she persuaded her father to allow her to accompany the archaeologist on his forthcoming tour of Asia.

At about the age of 20, after completing her education at a Swiss finishing school she went on a skiing trip. Their plane crashed en route to the destination; she was the only survivor. Her experience seemed to wake her up from the boring aristocratic life, and she chose to become a "tomb raider". In essence, she is for hire to recover lost artifacts, whether from tombs, or the clutches of selfish collectors. She typically is heavily armed with a variety of firearms. Although she dislikes killing people, she will do so without hesitation in order to protect herself, however on at least one occasion (profiled in Tomb Raider Chronicles) she refuses to help a rival tomb raider who subsequently falls to what appears to be his death (he later is shown to have survived the fall). Fans of Lara Croft have been critical of the video games for portraying her in an increasingly bloodthirsty manner, and occasionally not giving players the option to avoid lethal force (in another example from Chronicles, one of the only ways through a deadly area is to shoot a sleeping guard in the head).

Created by Toby Gard, the heroine of the video game series has spawned over six incarnations of the game, where the heroine must defeat evil gangsters, sharks, dinosaurs, and yes, even rats. Tomb Raider games have been made for the PC, Mac, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, Saturn, Dreamcast, N-Gage, Pocket PC, Game Boy Advance, and Game Boy Color.

She is also played by the actress Angelina Jolie in the movies Tomb Raider and . She has also been portrayed by models, including the actress Rhona Mitra and the current top model Jill De Jong. Despite some initial reservations, Jolie expressed interest in making a third Tomb Raider film, but the second film's box office failure led to these plans being cancelled. That, coupled with the underperformance of the 2003 game, Angel of Darkness, might spell the end for Lara Croft.

Some fans considered Lara's growing status as a sex symbol in the video game fandom through each progressive game sequel -- with increasingly gratutitous artwork and advertistments -- deterimental to the character, who gained more attention from her appearance than her tough-as-nails spirit and determination.
