The main kingdoms or over-kingdoms on the island of Ireland were the coiced (cúige) or fifths, generally translated as 'portions' or provinces. They were: Ulaidh (present-day Ulster), Ol nEcmacht (present-day Connacht), Mide and Osraighe were both in Laighain (present-day Leinster), Mumha/Mhumhain (present-day Munster).
