Khanate of Kazan Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
The Kazan khanate (Qazan Xanlığı) (1438-1552) was a state of Kazan Tatars, in the Volga Bulgaria's range of area and population (before 1236), nowadays Tatarstan + Mariy El, Chuvashia, Mordovia, part of Udmurtia and Bashkortostan. It was founded by one of the older Golden Horde rulers, Olug Mohammad Khan in the year of 1437 and became independent of the Golden Horde. Kazan Khanate was prone to civil turmoil and struggles for the throne. The khans were replaced 19 times in 115 years, for a total of 15 khans, some ruling 2 or 3 times. Khan could be elected from Gengizides by Kazan people or noblemen in some cases.Capital - Kazan. (1437-1552). Capital in occupation period (1552-1556) was Mişä qalası.
In 1552 it was conquered by Russian Tzar Ivan Grozny.
