Kalush (in Ukrainian : Калуш) is a city in Southwest Ukraine incorporated in 1939. Set in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains, it lies near Ivano-Frankivs'k, formerly part of Austria-Hungary and Poland (Kalusz).From the 16th Century, there has been a strong Jewish presence in the city, and in 1941, it "ethnically cleansed" by the Nazis. 1
