Kajagoogoo Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

Kajagoogoo was a British band best known for its first single, "Too Shy", which was produced by Duran Duran's Nick Rhodes, reaching Number 1 in the UK and Number 4 in the U.S in 1983.

Originally a four piece art-jazz instrumental group, they were called Art Nouveau and released a track called "The Fear Machine". The single sold a few hundred copies locally but never came to much more.

But then bassist Nick Beggs came up with an idea. 'Lets change our name!' he said. Writing out the phonetics of a baby's first sounds gave them "GagaGooGoo". With a little bit of "casual" alteration it became Kajagoogoo. They then set about finding a singer, which they did when Christopher Hamill joined. He made his profile, and therefore that of the band, catchier by making an anagram of his surname, becoming Limahl.

The classic Kajagoogoo line-up comprised of Limahl (vocals), Nick Beggs (bass), Steve Askew (guitar), Jez Strode (keyboards) and Stuart Neale (drums). They recorded the album White Feathers in 1982, whence their single "Too Shy" was the second track.

The band fired Limahl in 1983 after a huge disagreement, with Beggs taking over as singer, but the hits dried up completely. They tried a 1984 relaunch as Kaja which failed, and they broke up for good in 1986.

Limahl enjoyed a briefly successful solo career.
