Jovibarba ("beard of Jove") are a subgenus of the genus Sempervivum and belong to the family Crassulaceae.
Sempervivum globiferum, subspecies globiferum, in situ, Lochenstein, South-West Germany. "Globiferum" means "carrying globes" (= "offsets").
The species Sempervivum globiferum propagates - besides the sexual propagation with seeds - with globuliform offsets ("rollers"), the species Jovibarba heuffelii with dividing of rosettes and/or sexual propagation.
The difference to the subgenus Sempervivum: Jovibarba have pale-greenish-yellow or yellow bell-shaped blossoms with six petals, the subgenus Sempervivum has actinomorphous blossoms with more than six petals.
Flowering Sempervivum globiferum subsp. hirtum, in cultivation, flower-stem with a lot of bell-shaped blossoms.
