Joshua Humphreys, ship builder, born June 17, 1751 in Haverford, Pennsylvania; died January 12, 1838 in the same place.

He was the first naval architect in the newly founded United States and has been called the father of the United States Navy. He designed the United States' first six frigates:

• Constellation
• Congress
