John R. Bolton was born November 20, 1948, in Baltimore. He is considered to be a neo-conservative. Bolton is one of the signers of the January 26, 1998, Project for the New American Century letter sent to President Clinton. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (2001).[1]Bolton currently serves as the Undersecretary of State for Arms Control and International Security (sworn in May 11, 2001).

During the Reagan and G.H.W. Bush administrations, he served in several positions within the Department of State, the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). He is the former executive director, Committee on Resolutions, Republican National Committee.[1]
