Details, Explanation and Meaning About Jack Horner

Jack Horner Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description

Jack Horner is a paleontologist. He wrote the book "Under the Big Sky". He was one of the founding members of the family dinosaur theory, which purported that some dino species would build nests and care for their young. Later, a nesting site was found, proving the theory. The new dinosaur species was named by Horner -- "Maiasaura", or Good Mother Lizard.

Despite this success, Jack Horner is probably best known outside of the paleontological community for his role as an advisor for the Jurassic Park movies. His direct advisement has lead (ironically) to some of the most inaccurate and poorly researched dinosaurs in the franchise, most notably the gigantic, mutated version of Spinosaurus aegypticus that was altered so tremendously from its real-life counterpart that the movie version was actually capable of dispensing with the largest land-predator of all time, Tyrannosaurus rex. (Note that two or three "predators" have been discovered which are slightly larger than T. rex (none of these were related to Spinosaurus), however they had heavier and less-agile builds, far, far smaller brains in porportion to body mass, and were quite possibly obligate scavengers.)

Outside of the Jurassic Park franchise, Jack Horner is also well known for advancing the theory that birds evolved from dromaeosaurids (or a close relative). This theory was originally Robert Bakker's, for which Horner was only too happy to take credit. Strangely, though Bakker claimed it was also possible for the dromaeosaurids to have evolved from very primitive birds -- which recent findings have shown to be the case -- Horner was always a bit too "conservative" to make this leap.

Within the paleontological community, Jack Horner is probably best known for pushing the "theory" that Tyrannosaurus rex was an obligate scavenger. Other paleontologists severely doubt this is the case, and many people (though probably not many paleontologists) have regarded Horner's reasoning for this hypothesis to be rather juvenile, at best.

Jack Horner is also the name of the protagonist of a nursery rhyme. He discovers a plum in his Christmas pie.
Jack Horner is also the name of the pornographic film producer character played by Burt Reynolds in the movie Boogie Nights. He discovers Dirk Diggler.
Jack Horner is also the name of a former Canadian politician who had sat as a Progressive Conservative MP in the House of Commons in the 1970s before crossing the floor to join the governing Liberal Party of Canada. He lost his seat in the subsequent 1979 Canadian election. see John Henry Horner
