Intercourse, Pennsylvania is a town located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, USA.

Intercourse, like Paradise, is a popular site for tourists who like the name of the town. Some town residents find the name a source of amusement. Oftentimes, it has been used in the newsmedia as a source of amusement, for example this quote from a newspaper article from the 90s: "..., mother of 9 from Intercourse..." Besides its name, Intercourse is famous for its communities of Amish. The movie Witness was filmed in Intercourse.

History

Intercourse was founded in 1754. The town was originally named after the Cross Keys Tavern. Intercourse became the official name in 1814. The origin of the name is disputed. One possibility is for a race course at the intersection of the two major roads the cross in the center of town.
