Holy Synod in Resistance Guide, Meaning , Facts, Information and Description
The Orthodox Church of Greece Holy Synod in ResistanceThe Holy Synod in Resistance, is a Moderate Greek Old Calendarists group that has taken a position of resistance to the adoption of non-traditional ideas and attitudes within the Eastern Orthodox Church. They are not, however, schismatic and have no desire to break from the rest of the church. The Greek, together with the Bulgarian and Romanian Old Calendarists seek to preserve the ancient traditions of the Church and hold them safe until the rest of the church returns. They are called Old Calendarists because they retain the original Julian calendar approved and used by the church for nearly 2000 years. They reject the adoption of the Gregorian calendar that occurred in the 1960’s as a “Papal” innovation having nothing to do with the church. They also reject the so called Revised Julian calendar because it does not solve the conflict. They regard ecumenism as an ecclesiological heresy.
The Holy Synod in Resistance willingly communes parishioners from other canonical jurisdictions as long as they have properly prepared themselves. As there is only one church; jurisdictions are for administrative organization only, laymen do not really belong to jurisdictions. It is the clergy who do not co-celebrate the Divine Liturgy with the modernist jurisdictions. In acting thus, they continue to function within the canonical boundaries of the Church and they cannot be ignored nor dismissed.
The Holy Synod's stated goal is to convene a unifying general Synod with a view to condemning ecumenism and restoring the unity of the Orthodox under a single calendar.
The Holy Synod in Resistance should not be confused with other, more radical Old Calendar groups which have taken the step of condemning all Eastern Orthodox but themselves.
